BAM! Early Morning Meditation

In our early morning sit we will be focusing on different aspects of the Buddhist Action Month.

Suitable for people who have done the Mindfulness of Breathing and the Metta Bhavana before.

Morning meditation will be every week day starting Monday 5th June, through to Friday 30th.

BAM! Buddhist Action Month at the NLBC throughout June

This June is Buddhist Action Month and the theme for this year is Connecting for Change. The NLBC we be taking part and we are inviting you to take your dharma and meditation practice off the cushion and into action!

Some of the activities during BAM! are:

    Gentle Yoga

    Guided by the principles of Vanda Scaravelli this class offers a clear, careful and detailed approach with a calm and steady pace. Promoting ease of movement and comfort in the body by mobilising stiff joints, relaxing tight muscles and revitalizing from the inside out. Appropriate for people aged 17 to 97.

    Qi Gong

    The focus in this class is on sequences of postures and movements. These include more general forms such as the popular Taiji Qigong Shibashi, but also sequences relating to the development and health of particular aspects and parts of the body. It is not necessary to memorise the movements. Through the regulation of body, breath and mind, qigong practice promotes harmony of the The Three Treasures (essence, vitality and spirit) and so cultivates a deep sense of calm connectedness.

    Hatha Yoga

    A deep and careful yoga designed to extend the spine and strengthen the body. There is a specific focus on long-term spinal health and undo-ing the damage caused by sitting for hours a time.
    Movements are slow and precise; influenced by the teachings of Vanda Scaravelli, John Stirk, Anna Ashby and Catherine Annis. The class is un-hurried and not predicated on gymnastic ability.

    The Thursday class is particularly relaxed and may include one or two long restorative postures and some meditation.

    Feldenkrais Method

    The Feldenkrais Method is an effective approach for learning to improve our capacity for graceful action. It works by enhancing awareness through gentle exploratory movements in order to increase our sensitivity for comfort and ease. Improvement in posture, breathing, coordination and flexibility are among the many benefits the Feldenkrais Method offers the individual and it is suitable for anyone whether they seek improvement developing a performance related skill, support in recovering from injury or want to cultivate more harmony throughout their daily activities.

    8-Step Recovery Group

    A meeting for anyone in recovery from addiction, habitual behaviours and obsessive tendencies.
    Our focus is a text: “Eight Step Recovery Using the Buddha’s Teachings to Overcome Addiction” alongside other Buddhist recovery books.

    Meetings will be peer led.

    Fun And Flow Vinyasa

    Looking for a creative, playful yoga class to get energized? This is an upbeat, smooth flowing practice that includes plenty of stretching and some strengthening and balance poses. Whilst the class is geared towards a moderate level, there are alignment cues and modifications, so you're welcome to make the class as gentle or challenging as you like. We end the class in a luxurious savasana and sometimes a guided meditation to keep the good vibes going. Suitable for all levels including complete beginners.

    Vinyasa Krama

    Krama means a step by step progression. Krama allows the practitioner to either stay at the first posture building strength and creating space or building experience opting to go deeper into more advanced asana making it accessible to everyone.     Gentle Vinyasa Flow Yoga

    An inspiring and softly flowing yoga that mindfully integrates hatha postures with the breath. The class focuses on lengthening, strengthening and stretching to relax the body and balance the mind. Drawing on the precision of Iyengar, energy of Asthanga and the creativity of Shiva Rea's Prana Flow, each session will combine elements of these yogic practices to develop strength, flexibility and stamina. Designed for all levels of experience, we'll finish with a luxurious period of shavasana (corpse pose) to form a deeply restful conclusion to the day.

  • 10 June: Vanaraji will focus on insight into the illusion of self through direct experience and what is possible when we get out of our own way
  • 8 July: Srivati will talk about a tendency to be too busy and how to balance self and other – an apparent dichotomy
  • 12 August: Dhammagita will focus on the development of awareness through the body. She draws on art, drama and bodywork and a firm belief that depth and fun can co-exist

    With discussion, exploration and meditation, plus coffee and croissants, we will connect with what is meaningful and ask what Buddhism can offer us to transform ourselves and the world.
