ONLINE Workshop: Yoga for Spring - Transitioning through the Seasons (Sat 18 Apr 2020)

Join Sian for an afternoon's exploration around the theme of transitioning smoothly into Spring.

Following a brief overview of Spring through the Ayurvedic lens, we’ll lead you through an active and detoxifying practice of yoga to help clear any heavy qualities from winter for you to emerge reset and ready for the new season.

You can join Sian for this workshop via the Zoom app, which you can use on your computer/laptop or tablet. You will be sent a link once you have booked.

Accessible to all and with variations and modifications where appropriate, we’ll finish with a long and luxurious relaxation.

NOT SUITABLE for women who are 12 weeks pregnant or less and those who are pregnant and not familiar with yoga modifications.

A chance to focus in more detail on the depth and scope of this style of yoga, guided by the pioneering work of Vanda Scaravelli.

Suitable for students with some experience, we will dive into some more dynamic sequences and explore some stronger poses such as backbends and inversions to discover the joys and benefits that they can bring.

With time to break down the progression towards more demanding poses so that the journey becomes accessible and enjoyable for all.'

Asana groups in-depth: Seated Poses (Sat 20 June 2020)

In this workshop we will explore the relationship between the base of the pose (the legs, hips and pelvis) and the spine; the importance of a firm foundation to achieve the length in the torso and movement in the spine that are crucial for our seated twists and forward bends.

Yoga for Summer Workshop (Sat 4 July 2020)

Reset from the sizzling summer with a calm and cooling yoga practice.

According to Ayurveda, the sister science of yoga, in summer, the pitta dosha can be aggravated, leading to imbalances such as skin problems, anger and impatience. There are, however, practices and tips to help stay cool.

Join Sian for an afternoon's exploration of yoga and Ayurveda in the summer consisting of a gently flowing yoga practice and a cooling meditation, finishing with a long and luxurious relaxation.

Asana groups in-depth: Backbends (Sat 25 July 2020)

“Through the practice of backbends, by using the senses of perception to look back, and drawing the mind to the back portion of the body, one day meditation comes naturally.” (BKS Iyengar).

With that in mind, we will approach this group of asanas slowly and carefully, starting with supported backward extensions and advancing to a more liberated practice.

Asana groups in-depth: Restorative Poses (Sat 22 Aug 2020)

A longer restorative practice of supported asanas to achieve a passive release of tension throughout the body. The hips and chest will be opened gently, with the use of props to aid extension and protect the joins from undue strain, while lengthening the spine.

This workshop will also include Pranayama - breathing techniques to promote further quietening of the body and mind.

Booking Arrangements

The North London Buddhist Centre’s general booking terms and conditions are:
• Full payment is needed for all bookings.
• Payments are not refundable, regardless of how many sessions have been attended.
• In order to qualify for a transfer the booking will need to be cancelled 5 working days before the start of the event. For cancellations after this point, the full fee will apply.
• Any transfer is at the discretion of the North London Buddhist Centre, subject to a £10 administration fee. Payments can be transferred once only.
