Verses from the Shantideva's Bodhicaryavatara on the guarding of Awareness
This is the most fundamental instruction for not causing harm or not making a mess of things.

5.49 When the mind is inflated or derisive, full of arrogance and vanity, exceedingly jocose, evasive or deceiving,

5.50 When, seeming to advance oneself, it is only deprecating others, contemptuous and scornful, one should remain like a block of wood.

Open Weekend Retreat: Turning to the nature of experience

A weekend retreat on Buddhism and Buddhist meditation.

We'll draw on a pithy summary of Buddhist teachings from the life of Padmasambhava. It is the advice he gave to Queen Ngang Chung in response to her request for a teaching that would take her to Enlightenment – which, we are told, it did. He tells her to “Lay bare whatsoever arises, good and bad thoughts alike”, in other words, turn towards experience with curiosity and acceptance, including thoughts and feelings, as a way to disclose their true nature.

Story-telling, meditation, talks and discussion will reveal the relevance of Buddhist teachings to our lives now, whether we are new to meditation and Buddhism or have been practising for years.

The retreat will be held at the beautiful Suffolk retreat centre ‘Vajrasana’, the place of the Thunderbolt.
