Spring Equinox with Puja (Sat 21 Mar 2020)

We will celebrate the Equinox with meditation, chanting and puja. The suggestion is to bring seeds - actual or conceptual - to be blessed as part of the puja.

The word blessing comes from the Old English blædsian meaning to make sacred, so we'll bring our 'seeds' whether they are flowers for the garden or intentions for our life to make them sacred so that as they take root and grow into our life they do so with our best intentions.

The Spring Equinox was celebrated as Ostara in pagan times with it's associations with the rebirth of the year and with fertility. It is a time of preparation for farmers and the tradition of bringing their seeds for blessing.

SAVE THE DATE: Triratna Community Day (Sat 4 April 2020)

This year's pan-London Triratna Day is going to be a pilgrimage from Amen Corner where Bhante Sangharakshita 'suddenly awoke to the complete absurdity of the mind being tied down to a physical body' to the basement in Monmouth Street where Triratna began.

We'll be stopping at key places along the way where some of the people who were actually there all those years ago will share their experience.

More details will follow soon - so if you want to join us then save the date (we'll start at 10.45 and finish at 5ish and you can join in at different points if you want).

Hope to see you there!

WOOD - an elemental Qigong workshop (Sun 3 May 2020)

Wood is the power of growth and is associated with the season of Spring. In the body it manifests as the Liver and Gall Bladder organs, responsible for planning, decision-making and the free flow of Blood, Qi and the emotions. The Liver in particular is said to house our 'wild inner spirit' and its vitality governs the healthy expression of this aspect of us, including our sexuality.

The expansive and spiraling qualities of Wood and its connection to these organs and their meridians will be explored in both moving and static forms. The Deer is the animal most associated with the Wood Element and we will use several Deer forms that embody the animal's power and grace. The day will be gently paced and will be perfect for the beginner.

Tea will be provided.

Daoist Yoga: Art of Body Refinement through the element of Wood

The Daoists see the body as consisting of five different complementary aspects, corresponding to the Five Elements. The Element of Wood relates to our physical and energetic form and structure. In this workshop we will be covering a series of movements and standing postures known as ‘Refinement Through the Element of Wood’.

This is a study of our form in space, that which allows us to exist, move and interact with the world around us. The focus will be on the major joints of the body, in Daoist alchemy referred to as ‘external vessels’: areas of the body where energy can collect, gather and transform. The session will be designed to help us understand how to open and form our vessels so that the energy flows more freely and harmoniously. The sequences and poses are excellent for strengthening the joints and improving posture. No previous experience of qigong necessary.

Tea will be provided.

FIRE: An Elemental Qigong Workshop (Sun 19 July 2020)

Fire is the expansive phase of the Five Elements cycle. It is associated with heat, the season of summer and the emotion joy. In the body it manifests primarily through the Heart, seen in Chinese medicine as the emperor of our internal kingdom, but its significance and power is such that it is allotted four meridians.

We will explore a variety of static and moving forms that connect to these meridians and their associated organs, and balance and support this work with the Earth and Water Elements. We will incorporate several bird forms, this being the animal most associated with Fire. Working with the Fire Element can bring clarity of mind, aid restful sleep and help us to fully embrace life. The session will be gently paced and will be suitable for the beginner.

Tea will be provided.
