Buddha Day Festival 2021: Sunday 23rd May
Hosted by Ratnaprabha (our Chair) with special talk by Kulamitra (our President)
Suitable for Intermediates & Regulars as well curious Newcomers - see here for definitions
Join us today as we celebrate the Enlightenment of the Buddha, an annual event throughout the Buddhist world. What does it mean when we say the Buddha was a human being who gained Enlightenment? What happened? And who was he? Come and explore this more, either LIVE & IN-PERSON at the Centre, or ONLINE on Zoom.
PROGRAMME OF SESSIONS
11:00 - 12:45 MORNING SESSION - LIVE PLUS ZOOM: Meditations and readings. (Booking essential for LIVE & IN-PERSON places)
13:00 - 14:15 Lunch on Highbury Fields - LIVE only: Bring your own food and drink and something to sit on! We are hoping to be on the grass near the top of Fieldway Crescent.
14:30 - 16:30 AFTERNOON SESSION - LIVE PLUS ZOOM: Special guest talk by Kulamitra (our President) entitled "The Mysterious Buddha”. Who was the Buddha really? Come along to find out more. This will be followed by discussions based on questions raised in the talk. The session will then close with some meditation. (Booking essential for LIVE & IN-PERSON places)
17:00 - 18:15 Special Buddha Day Puja including Mitra Ceremonies - ZOOM only: We are delighted that a number of people have chosen to become Mitras with NLBC on this Buddha Day. This represents an initial commitment to Buddhism and a public statement that “I am a Buddhist”, marked by a simple but affecting silent ritual. For more information on what it means to become a Mitra please click here.
HOW TO ATTEND LIVE & IN-PERSON:- Due to Covid restrictions on numbers, booking is essential for Live & In-Person places. You will need to book separately for the morning session and afternoon session. If you want to come Live & In-Person for the whole day, you will need to book onto both sessions.
