Mindfulness Based Approaches

Mindfulness Based Approaches take a secular approach to meditation techniques that has been validated in the treatment of a number of conditions by scientific research, as endorsed by NICE (the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence).

All our Mindfulness courses help to develop skills to meet the ups and downs of everyday life as well as to manage:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Stress

  • Self compassion and empathy

  • Chronic illness and pain

  • Addictive behaviours

  • Disrupted sleep patterns

Mindfulness can help to develop greater resilience. Supported by ongoing practice most people gain lasting benefits: more energy and enthusiasm; greater capacity for relaxation; more self-confidence; and an increased ability to handle difficult situations.

Mindfulness practice will not remove a source of distress or discomfort, but it can open up choice through a shift in responses to difficult experiences.

Our Mindfulness courses

Our Mindfulness courses generally consist of up to 9 weekly classes. They are designed to help anyone with managing everyday ups and downs, giving a fuller experience of life, as well as helping to develop more self-compassion. However, in addition they offer skills to work more effectively with anxiety, depression, stress, chronic illness and pain, addictive behaviours, disrupted sleep, and other unhelpful behavioural patterns.


All our courses are led by professionally trained Mindfulness teachers and advance booking is required.

To benefit fully you need to be able to commit to coming to all the classes (including orientation session and practice day where applicable) as well as to the daily home practice. This requires a strong commitment on your part to work through a gentle but rigorous daily discipline of meditation and other awareness exercises. The daily home practice is as important a part of the course as the weekly classes. You will be asked to commit as best you possibly can to 45-60 minutes daily, six days a week, between each class. Research evidence shows that this is the best way to get the greatest effect for you.

 

Why train in (MCBT) Mindful Compassion Behaviour and how is it different to the (MBCT) Mindfulness training?

 

We need to balance mindfulness/ awareness and compassion/ kindly awareness. Both compassion and mindfulness trainings are equally important and they need to be utilised together, other wise we may be aware but we can go round and around thinking, interpretation and analysis which keeps us stuck. The compassion training is not just an intellectual understanding but helps us connect to our feelings, to transform emotional behaviours and critical thought patterns.

- Compassion training works with the emotions, behaviours and not just your cognitions.

- Compassion training is for a deeper physical, emotional and cognitive transformation and change.

- In the mindful compassion training, were learning to question the unhelpful patterns of thinking, feeling, behaviour and connect to our healthy emotions, feelings and thoughts.

Compassion training lessens perfection driven, high demands and unrelenting standards which activate a critical and judging mind set. Through mindful and kindly awareness, we can show compassion towards yourself, others and life itself. Compassionate mind training, helps us find opportunities to understand our situation more clearly and act more wisely with a choice to respond and lessen reactivity.
