Parinirvana Day Festival Led by Visuddhimati & Lalitaraja

Suitable for Newcomers / Intermediates / Regulars.
This key buddhist festival marks the final passing of the Buddha two and a half millennia ago. Death is a mystery to us all with the death of an Enlightened one being even more mysterious.  Parinivana day gives us an opportunity not just to reflect on the great mystery of death but also to rejoice in the example of the Buddha’s life and in the precious opportunity our own lives present us with.

The Buddha advised his followers that if they were to thrive they should ‘meet together regularly and in large numbers.’ Festivals are central to the life of the Buddhist community, providing us with a regular opportunity to gather as a community for a celebration of the Buddha and his teachings. Bring a vegetarian lunch to share at 1pm followed by an afternoon of meditation, discussion, talks and workshops culminating in a ritual in the early evening.

Gathering for Mitras & Order Members (doors open 10.15am for 10.30am start).

10.30 - 11.30  Meditation and Reflection for Order Members and Mitras

Doors open to everyone at 11.30am

11.40am Practice session open to all. Meditation, Chanting,  Readings and reflections on the Buddha’s Parinirvana.

1pm Vegetarian lunch to share.

2pm Reflections from our President, Kulamitra, on his mother’s recent death followed by an opportunity to explore our own response to death.

3.10pm Tea Break

3.30pm Puja with Mitra ceremonies

A significant step, usually after attending courses, retreats and making connections with others, is to ask to become a Mitra (meaning ‘friend’). A Mitra is someone who considers themselves a Buddhist and wants to practise in the context of the Triratna Buddhist Community.

Sangha members are invited to bring photos of friends and family who’ve died to place on the shrine.

4.30pm End

Our wonderful teachers give their time for free to put on these events. Please join that spirit of generosity and help the Centre continue to thrive. Please donate if you can by clicking here and use reference ‘Festival Day’. Suggested donation £20.
