IN PERSON | Buddha Day Festival: The Mythic Moment of Enlightenment  Led by Ksantikara and Kshantisara

Everyone is invited as we celebrate this most important day in the Buddhist calendar with meditation, stories from the life of the Buddha, shared food, and a special ritual.

The life story of the Buddha is much more than a historical account – it is a poetic myth full of profound meanings that resonate in the depths of the mind. This is particularly true of the most important event in the Buddha’s whole career, his attainment of Enlightenment. To feel the impact of the images in the Buddha’s story we need to open up to them imaginatively, and not just engage our rational, critical mind.

During this festival day we will plunge into four of the myths, stories and symbols associated with the moment of enlightenment: the Bodhi tree itself, the epic attack of Mara (the ‘Satan’ of Buddhism), the calling of the Earth Goddess and the visit of Mucalinda the The Serpent King.
