Yatra is a traditional Buddhist practice meaning a walk with spiritual purpose. This is an opportunity to put away your time pieces and maps, put down the to-do list and abandon the need to know where you are going for a few precious hours. In this way your mind can unwind, supported by your body as it moves to a natural rhythm - walking.
Covering a broad range of London terrain, we will walk in silence and single file, in openness to the earth and sky, and to nature as it manifests in the city. The day will be ritually held evoking the mythology of the sun-cycle as we approach its fullest point - the summer solstice.
Gathering at the North London Buddhist Centre at 9.30, we will finish in the late afternoon at a mystery destination close to public transport links - bring your TfL payment means. We will keep a steady but gentle pace, with breaks built in. Expect to walk for most the day, so some walking shoes would be helpful. Please bring a packed lunch and drink, and clothing to suit the weather conditions - do check the forecast.
