“We will not end...any form of human evil by trying to tear it to pieces. Instead, we can offer people better ways to belong and better things to belong to.” Resmaa Menakem (from ‘My Grandmother's Hands: Racialized Trauma and the Mending of Our Bodies and Hearts’).

Singhashri writes: “Since the murder of George Floyd and the subsequent global uprisings for racial justice, the Triratna Buddhist Order and Community has been catapulted into a dynamic, inspiring and challenging collective conversation about how we can create a more inclusive sangha for BIPOC/BAME people. This day workshop will explore our own response to racial injustice and how we can teach in ways that are radically inclusive. We’ll ask ourselves:

  • How can we create spaces of deep meaning and heart-felt belonging, where we are each doing our own work in connection with one another?

  • How do we support others to cultivate an attitude of openness and curiosity, willing to see clearly the parts of themselves that are both longing for freedom and those still in the shadows, confused, or actively resisting change?

These questions are relevant to both how we work internally and also how we engage in beloved community. It is the ground from which true inclusivity can take root, grow and flourish, creating beloved community from the inside out.”

This is the second part in a series of teacher training events on this theme open to any and all Order members and GFR mitras who currently teach or are interested in beginning to teach, whether or not you’ve attended before.

Join Singhashri, one of our most popular teachers, to explore this material in relation to teaching meditation and Buddhism.

***Please note, this workshop is only for Triratna Order Members and Mitras who have asked for Ordination***
