*** SPECIAL ECO EVENT (Part 1) *** BUDDHISM, THE ENVIRONMENT AND YOU ***
The NLBC is privileged to host this very special international event, highlighting the interface between Buddhism and the environment. Come and join three of the most thoughtful members of our Order reflecting on our relationship with the environment, and how we can practise in ways that are connected to the natural world.
This morning’s session will feature a LIVE & IN-PERSON panel discussion by three prominent Buddhist speakers and authors, chaired by Dhammamegha, Director of Windhorse Publications. The panel will explore the nature of wisdom in the context of the natural world, animism, and how we can become better ancestors to the people of the future, with themes such as: what it means to be human in the environment; what views and actions condition separation and connection; how to become more sensitive to these. There will also be some led practice.
THE PANEL: In 2018 Vajragupta published ‘Wild Awake: Alone, Offline and Aware in Nature’ (for more details click here ). In it he talks about solitude, sensitivity, and being alive to the natural world of animals, plants, and weather as an integral part of Buddhist practice. Maitridevi is the chair of Taraloka women’s retreat centre. During lockdown she recorded a series of nature-based meditations (for some examples click here ) The third panellist is Shantigarbha, who will also lead the in-person afternoon session. Windhorse Publications has just released his second book: ‘The Burning House: A Buddhist Response to the Climate and Ecological Emergency’ (more details click here ) He is an activist, and Non-Violent Communication trainer.
