The Sangha is the Buddhist term for the community of people wishing to learn from the Buddha's teachings. Lalitaraja, Santva, Manjumitra, Khemananda and guest Order Members take turns to lead these evenings, practising and communicating Buddhism. A Sangha evening might include a talk, meditation, discussion, workshop, devotional practice. Open to all (though it is helpful if you have had an introduction to the Mindfulness of Breathing and Metta Bhavana meditation practices).
Monday 22nd November: The Beauty of Sangha, a network of spiritual friendship
Tonight we'll be continuing our Sangha Day Festival celebrations. Our 21st century, educated but unconfident, eye is easily drawn to the perceived shortcomings of Sangha and we can lose sight of the potential of Sangha as the path to Awakening. So, tonight we'll read a story from the Pali Canon, 'The Meghiya Sutta', where the Buddha lays out for his disciple all the benefits to be gained through the practice of spiritual friendship. We'll recall our personal experience of spiritual community and let the good times roll. There will be meditation and discussion.
