Being a Buddhist does not mean being part of a religious group. It means learning how to see the world as it is, through your own eyes, and acting from that vision. So what is the sangha or Buddhist community then? To find out we actually need to lessen our attachment to groups and become more of an individual.

An individual is free from trying to fit into (or react against) groups, is free from the constraints of groups, and is free therefore to discover more and more of their boundless true potential. The paradox and beauty of sangha happen when these individuals choose to practice and create a community together.

In this four-week course, we’ll explore what it means to emancipate oneself from the need to belong to a group and become a true individual, and how the spiritual community is not just another group, but a free association of individuals.

If you have already learned to meditate with us, this course will give you a further grounding in our approach. Note that there will be limited meditation teaching as part of the course, so if you are new to the Centre we’d recommend doing one of our introductory courses on Monday evenings after this course.

All our courses are led by experienced meditators who are ordained Buddhists.
